PRAYER of the DAY - APBA p558
O Lord, we beseech you
mercifully to receive the prayers of your people
who call upon you,
and grant that they may both perceive and know
what things they ought to do,
and also may have grace and power
faithfully to fulfil them’
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
GOSPEL for the Day: Matthew 11: 28-30
28 ‘Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’
GOSPEL REFLECTION: Alan Dann
In just three short sentences Jesus has provided comfort and relief to people who are finding the dark clouds of anguish worry, anxiety and troubles a burden that is approaching the stage of being unbearable.
It as an invitation that is tantalizing; an invitation that, if accepted, can lead to great relief. It is an invitation that goes straight to the emotions; that is easy to accept. Jesus says that he is gentle and humble in heart. We can allow this invitation to fill us with anticipation of the calming effect of finding rest for your souls.
Take My yoke and learn from Me refers to the picture of oxen in harness side by side. Jesus invites us to take His yoke – walk beside Him. Share the load He says. Then the weight is lifted for His yoke is easy and, shared with Jesus the burden is light and easy to handle.
What a relief!
FINAL PRAYER A prayer for peace of mind : Calmness Prayers - Xavier University
Loving God, please grant me peace of mind and calm my troubled heart. My soul is like a turbulent sea. I can't seem to find my balance so I stumble and worry constantly. Give me the strength and clarity of mind to find my purpose and walk the path you've laid out for me.
