PRAYER of the DAY - APBA p581
O God,
without you we are not able to please you:
mercifully grant that your Holy Spirit
may in all things direct and rule our hearts;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
GOSPEL for the Day: Luke 8: 1-3
Soon afterwards he went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. The twelve were with him, 2as well as some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, 3and Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their resources.
GOSPEL REFLECTION: Helen Menzies
Many women today complain they are not paid the way they should be in certain circumstances. Let us look at Jesus’ times. We read that he was travelling with his twelve male disciples 'and some women'. They would have provided the picnic lunch and fresh water to drink, a hot meal in the evening when they arrived home tired.
Mary Magdalene and Mary mother of Jesus Joanna would have been a wealthy woman. Chuza started to follow Jesus when she was still with Herod one would presume.
Women were very important to Jesus. When he was invited to the home of Simon the Pharisees he began to chastise him for not giving him a courteous welcome. He indicated a prostitute who was sitting by his feet who had washed his feet with her tears and was drying them with her hair, and had poured on precious perfume and never ceased to kiss them. This story was handed down through the years. Very wonderful to think about !!
FINAL PRAYER
In Christ there is no east or west in him no south or north but one great fellowship of love throughout the whole earth.
Thank you Lord that we are all equal in your sight and loved the same. We ask in all the wondrous names of God and through Jesus Christ our Lord
Amen.
