PRAYER of the DAY - APBA p 512
who called your Church to witness
that you were in Christ reconciling the world to yourself:
help us so to proclaim the good news of your love,
that all who heart it may be reconciled to you;
through him who died for us and rose again
and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
GOSPEL for the Day: John 15: 18-21
18”If the world hates you, be aware that it hated me before it hated you. 19If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as its own. Because you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world—therefore the world hates you. 20Remember the word that I said to you, ‘Servants are not greater than their master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also. 21But they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me.
GOSPEL REFLECTION: Anne MacRonald
I initially found the opening verse of this reading quite disturbing and startling .
Jesus chose his disciples to follow him and used the word “world” to describe the people who rejected and persecuted him and his followers.
In today’s world many people have made money, reputation, success and power their God. They place value on what they own, who they know and who can be exploited to benefit and to gain their own ends. We only have look to the tragedy of Ukraine and all other conflicts in the world.
Following Jesus can sound very romantic and holy but will be a difficult journey as the influences of those around can be very persuasive . Following the truth may anger those who live with lies.
And I remember that Jesus loved all people no matter who they were and how they had behaved. Opposition to him took him to death and love took him from death to resurrection.
The world is not an easy place to live . Each day we have choices to make.
I pray that I will follow the way of truth and act as Jesus would act. Only I can choose.
FINAL PRAYER JC
Being known is the greatest gift
to our self-esteem, to our hope for the day.
Being known is the hope we can then give others
because we can listen as Christ listens.
Being known means we also know the voice
we are called to follow.
Being known is all we need to know.
Being known is the greatest love gift of all.
Thank you, our Christ.
