Gracious Father,

who in your great mercy made glad the disciples

with the sight of the risen Lord:

give us such awareness of his presence with us

that we may be strengthened and sustained by his risen life,

and serve you continually in righteousness and truth;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

GOSPEL for the Day: John 6: 60-69

60 When many of his disciples heard it, they said, ‘This teaching is difficult; who can accept it?’ 61But Jesus, being aware that his disciples were complaining about it, said to them, ‘Does this offend you? 62Then what if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? 63It is the spirit that gives life; the flesh is useless. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 64But among you there are some who do not believe.’ For Jesus knew from the first who were the ones that did not believe, and who was the one that would betray him. 65And he said, ‘For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted by the Father.’

66 Because of this many of his disciples turned back and no longer went about with him. 67So to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.’

GOSPEL Reflection: Contributed by Penny Graham

When the disciples heard what Jesus was saying, they grumbled & said " that this is hard teaching". Jesus said to them " Does this offend you ? I have come down from heaven, in a series of events that began with my crucifixion on the cross & I have been glorified". Jesus existed before he became human. " My words are full of The Holy Spirit, which gives life, the flesh counts for nothing. Human beings cannot feed on, or believe in Jesus without feeding on his words. The Holy Spirit generates life through his words.

Jesus says," that there are some of you who do not believe, from the beginning he knew which disciples would betray him. He went on to say" that no-one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them." It was at this time that some of his disciples turned their backs on Jesus & no longer followed him.. He then asked the remaining Twelve, " Do you want to leave too ?" It was then that Simon Peter answered him & asked " To whom shall we go ? You have the words of Eternal Life. We have come to believe & to know that You are The Holy One of God ".

FINAL PRAYER: “Easter” David Adam

It is the Lord,

in the dawning

in the renewal,

in the arrival,

in the new day.

It is the Lord,

in the crowd,

in the church,

in the conversation,

in the crisis.

It is the Lord,

in our joys,

in our sorrows,

in our sickness,

in our health.

It is the Lord,

in the stable,

in the humble,

in the stranger,

in the poor.

It is the Lord,

risen and returned,

alive for evermore,

giving me new life,

saving me in strife,

It is the Lord.
