PRAYER of the DAY - APBA p530
O God,
the strength of all those who put their trust in you:
mercifully accept our prayers,
and because through the weakness of our mortal nature
we can do nothing good without you,
grant us the help of your grace,
that in keeping your commandments
we may please you both in will and deed;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
GOSPEL for the Day: Mark 4: 21-25
21 He said to them, ‘Is a lamp brought in to be put under the bushel basket, or under the bed, and not on the lampstand? 22For there is nothing hidden, except to be disclosed; nor is anything secret, except to come to light. 23Let anyone with ears to hear listen!’ 24And he said to them, ‘Pay attention to what you hear; the measure you give will be the measure you get, and still more will be given you. 25For to those who have, more will be given; and from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away.’
GOSPEL REFLECTION: Helen Menzies
A minute of silence as we remember our elders who have walked this land we now call Australia, for many centuries, and for whom this is indeed a day of mourning!
A lamp must be displayed to give out its light. It must never be covered up or it won't be doing its job, giving light so that others may benefit.
Jesus said nothing is hidden or secret. It must all be disclosed.
Listen carefully. Pay attention. The measure you give will be the measure you get. Those who have more will be given. Those who have nothing what they have will be taken away.
I am reminded of the chorus:
Give and it shall be given unto you; Give of your life in service ever free for indeed we have learned; As your days so your strength will be.
FINAL PRAYER
Loving heavenly Father thank you for the strength for today. We received that which we needed yesterday. We know what awaits to morrow. May we all move forward on our Faith Journey into 1923 one day at a time with this assurance As thy days so thy strength will be
We ask this in Jesus precious name.
Amen
