PRAYER of the DAY - APBA p598

God our Father,

whose will it is to bring all things

to order and unity in our Lord Jesus Christ:

may all the peoples of the world,

now divided and torn apart by sin,

be brought together under his sovereign rule of love;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

GOSPEL for the Day: Luke 12-14

12He said also to the one who had invited him, “When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, in case they may invite you in return, and you would be repaid. 13But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. 14And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

GOSPEL REFLECTION: Helen Menzies

Hospitality is such a large part of friendship. I love asking friend in the village for a culpa.

When I was growing up hospitality was a large part of our lives. Having interstate visitors to stay, and my room was the guest room. Paul White, the Jungle Dr, was Dear friend and stayed quite frequently when visiting Melbourne.

We lived in a small flat attached to a larger building. My room was the guest room. I would get up and make the bed with clean sheets before I left for school a forty minute tram ride away. I usually left my folding bed on the tiny balcony until I came home. The balcony not only had mosquito wire but heavy wire to keep out the friendly possums that came across the road from the Fitzroy Gardens. Not banquets, but no expectations in return.

FINAL PRAYER

Loving Heavenly Father.

May we ever be mindful of those in need and where we are able give of the great bounty that you have give us and ever mindful of the gift of your life Jesus for us.

We ask this in your precious name.

Amen.
