PRAYER of the DAY - EASTER FIVE APBA p513

Saving God,

who called your Church to witness

that you were in Christ reconciling the world to yourself:

help us so to proclaim the good news of your love,

that all who hear it may be reconciled to you;

through him who died for us and rose again

and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

Amen

GOSPEL for the Day: John 15: 8-11

8My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples. 9As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. 10If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. 11I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete.

GOSPEL Reflection: Contributed by HiPeter Brady

Chapter 15 of John's Gospel is given over exclusively to Jesus' discourse in the upper room after the passover meal (the farewell discourse). In verses 8-11 Jesus assures the disciples of His continuing love and encourages them to maintain their faith, in spite of what He knows is to come.

Even though we know what happens next, this message remains as relevant to us. Jesus demonstrates obedience to the Father and His love for us by His death on the cross. If we follow His example, we can rest in His love with no fear of tomorrow. Our hope and trust lies in Jesus. We should have joy for evermore knowing that through His resurrection we too will rise to everlasting peace and joy.

FINAL PRAYER: from Peter

Lord our God,

we look to You and to Jesus Christ our Saviour. Renew your grace and power in our lives. Help us to be ready to serve you with body and soul,

with all we have and all we are. And when our work is done,

grant us safe safe lodging and holy rest and peace.

Amen
