Pentecost 6C 2025: Liturgy for at Home

Sixth Sunday After Pentecost

In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and trust shall be your strength. Isaiah 30.16

Collect

Eternal God,
you draw near to us in Christ
and make yourself our guest:
amid the cares of our daily lives,
make us attentive to your voice
and alert to your presence,
that we may treasure your word above all else.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever. Amen.

The Gospel according to Luke 10.38-42

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, ‘Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!’ 41 ‘Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed – or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.’

Thanksgiving for the Gifts of Ministry

For the life of this church, for its witness and worship,
for the Spirit’s guiding presence among us—
We give you thanks, O God.

For those who serve on Parish Council—who listen, discern, and make decisions with care and courage,
We give you thanks, O God.

For those who tend our grounds and buildings—who mow, mend, plant, and paint,
who honour this place as holy ground,
We give you thanks, O God.

For sanctuary teams and liturgical helpers—who prepare the table, arrange the space,
and hold the beauty of worship with reverence and intention,
We give you thanks, O God.

For musicians and singers—who lift our hearts, awaken our spirits,
and offer their gifts in praise and prayer,
We give you thanks, O God.

For those who bake, pour tea, run raffles, organise market days,
and raise funds with joyful generosity and fellowship,
We give you thanks, O God.

For those who host and welcome—who greet at the door, set the table,
and make space for strangers to become friends,
We give you thanks, O God.

For those who nurture prayer, lead retreats, and companion others
in the sacred work of listening and healing,
We give you thanks, O God.

For those who offer pastoral care—visiting, calling, praying, and holding others in love and trust,
We give you thanks, O God.

For all who give their time, talents, and hearts to the ministry of this church, seen and unseen,
We give you thanks, O God.

For the Body of Christ in this place—gathered, gifted, and growing in grace,
We give you thanks, O God.

As our Saviour Christ has taught us, we pray for the coming of God’s kingdom:

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever. Amen.
